• A business can wait for invoices to be paid or it can sell them to a third party at a discount. This type of business transaction is called factoring.
• For example, a business sends out $10,000 worth of invoices for products or services. Management needs the cash immediately.
• The business sends details of the accounts receivable to GFS.
• GFS evaluates the invoice portfolio and contacts an appropriate Factor, i.e. a company specializing in buying accounts receivable at a slight discount rate.
• The factor / funding source offers to buy the invoices for $9,600.
• If the business accepts the offer, it can receive the cash within a few days. Of course, this is only a hypothetical example, and discount rates may vary based on the size of the invoice portfolio and other factors.
• The FACTOR / funding source, not the business, pays GFS a fee for a new account.
